Donate cups for a cuppa at Lakeside Village
Women from across the county are being asked to donate their old bras to charity and receive a free tea or coffee with Lakeside Village’s Cups for a Cuppa campaign.
Last year kind hearted shoppers donated more than 1,000 used bras to a charity appeal by Against Breast Cancer and Lakeside Village’s Wonderbra/Playtex/Shock Absorber outlet wants to build on this in 2017.
Store manager Tracey Murphy, said: “Last year was a real success and our customers showed such generosity, bringing in bags full of their unwanted bras to donate to Against Breast Cancer’s project.
“We want to build on this and collect even more bras during 2017. We are delighted to team up with Thornton’s Chocolate Cafe to offer each customer donating old bras a free tea or coffee with a chocolate at their Lakeside Village Chocolate café.
“As a team, we are very committed to raising awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer. We display guides on how to check your breasts in all of our changing rooms and, thanks to this appeal, we’re getting more opportunities to discuss the topic with our customers one-to-one.”
For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund its vital research. The bras are also used to help support small businesses in Africa, as the charity’s textile recovery project prevents the bras going into landfill and gives them a new lease of life where bras remain too expensive to produce locally.
John Magee, centre manager at Lakeside Village said: “Donating old bras towards a good cause is a fantastic idea and one that’s having a real impact here in our centre. We’re pleased to be able to support Tracey and her team in collecting donations and it is fantastic that thanks to Thornton’s we are able to reward this generosity by giving something back.”
Unwanted bras should be donated at the Lakeside Village Wonderbra/Playtex/Shock Absorber store.
