Keep a watchful eye on the emerging trends with help from interior designers and fashion influences, to inspire and transform your living space…
After Dulux announcing the 2017 colour of the year, Denim Drift, what better way to address this than the inclusion of a coastal trend. This trend seems to have made a comeback over the past few years, and why wouldn’t it? After all, who doesn’t love a bit of seaside charm! This summer we see a move to the cooler end of the colour spectrum with calm sea serenity and comfort of the coast. Picture pale blue and grey hues contrasted with darker indigo tones and pearly whites accented by natures coral and shell motifs. Immerse your home with soft tactile layers, distressed wooden textures and gentle water-colour prints for a relaxed, nature-inspired aesthetic.
Where we saw the urban tropical trend evolve last summer, we now see a replacement of bohemia and Eastern inspired decor. Perfectly suited to the tranquil summer days, opt for a carefree 70s inspired Bohemian spirit throughout your living space. Consider a well-travelled global look with traditional designs and patterns for an eclectic but well executed style. A popping mixture of bright jewel tones lay against muted whites and dusty terracotta’s to bring a sense of excitement to the rich earthy tones. Metallic accents can also be seen throughout prints to offset multi-tonal stylised designs.
Hello Yellow! This Scandinavian inspired trend features liberal, oversized geometrics and bold patterns in every yellow shade from citrus to mustard. The clashing of designs and complementing colour pop furnishings welcome a popular futuristic look within a light-filled, clear minimalist space. Some may opt for a light sprinkling of yellow throughout soft furnishings for example, others look to use yellow in quantity. In which, contrasts of greys, blacks, charcoals, teals and white should be used to offset and avoid overpowering. Try using a mix of old and new styles such as modern statement furniture pieces in authentic colours, or retro pieces displayed in right colour pops. The versatility and boldness of this angular trend is what has made it timeless, enabling you to invest in new key pieces each season that complement your favourite style.
The Boardwalk trend shows a move towards new age art deco and a step back in time to the roaring Twenties. This eclectic style combines traditional organic and elegant charm, featuring ornate, extravagant detailing with rich colours and metallics for a lavish approach. Art Deco considers geometry, space, angles and cubism throughout rich quilted upholstery, feminine silks, soft satins and plush velvets for tactile pleasure. Complete the look with a vintage wooden cocktail cabinet, beautifully arranged drinks trolley, chandeliers, brass accessories and marble touches for a true luxe era revival.
Step on through into the secret garden to find an array of vividly coloured blooms and watercolored posies. With stylised cosmopolitan twists, these elegant florals are able to create a classic modern look for the summer season. Inspired by the 70’s William Morris floral patterned wallpaper, a beautiful scattering of elegant watercolored blooms add a newness to this vintage look, creating the perfect balance between sophistication and young design. Add dramatic floral flashes throughout your living space by featuring on bed linens and walls, or inject a softer approach throughout paintings and scatter cushions. Whether you’re looking for a classic British homegrown feel or a contemporary vibrant arrangement, the floral trend is versatile to all personal preferences.
We think the easiest way to incorporate trends that you love into your home whilst making it affordable every season, is through an eclectic mix of carefully chosen accessories that truly epitomise the trend, and ones that won’t give you the guilt trip when the time comes to replacing them. For those of you that don’t have a fixed budget and plan on fully immersing yourself in each new season trend, its amazing what a fresh lick of paint can do to transition your home into a brand new year.
