Bag a Bargain at Lakeside Village!
Read the latest blog from the lovely Kara, author of Spread the Sparkle. She’s written all about our incredible Beauty Outlet store.
When I think of beauty outlets in retail parks I never hold out much hope. In all honesty, I’ve had pretty poor experiences with them. While they are amazing for high street brands such as Rimmel, Bourjois and W7, I have to hold my hands up and say I’m a bit of a beauty snob. I love me a bit of luxury so give me my Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury and Chantecaille. When I was invited along to Lakeside Village in Doncaster to have a nosey around their Beauty Outlet I went with drug store in mind. Oh, how wrong I was.
Lakeside Village is located in Doncaster, about 3 miles from the M18 so is easily accessible. I’ve never been there before but wondering around, it was hard not to get spendy. It has some great stores – GAP (which is always a favourite of mine for my daughter), Clintons, Costa (because a girl has to refuel when doing some serious shopping), M&S and Next to name but a few. You can expect to find up to 60% discount on RRP as standard here…it is dangerous for my bank account. However, I had make up on my mind so made a beeline straight for the beauty outlet.
I honestly don’t know where to start with this other than to say I was genuinely blown away. I thought about creating a look with the bits I picked up, or doing a haul, but I think you guys deserve to know the kind of exciting brands you can pick up here so I’m going to be talking you through my top finds today.
The nail varnish section was a sea of colour. Fill your boots with high street brands, from W7 through to Rimmel, but what caught my eye here were the Nails Inc and OPI sections. I’m a huge fan of Nails Inc (can’t wait to dig out my Snow Globe for the festive season) so to see their premium quality bottles lining the shelves for a matter of mere pounds was exciting! Whilst the Beauty Outlet might not have their latest launches in stock, they do have timeless shades and some iconic collections, such as the collaboration with Alexa Chung. I’ll definitely be making a bee line for the store when my nail polishes need livening up!
I honestly almost had a melt down when I saw that the Beauty Outlet had a whole counter devoted to Stila. This was definitely not a brand I expected to stumble across! I first got my mitts on some Stila bits a couple of years ago and was instantly hooked. Their One Step Corrector is up there with my favourite primers, despite having missed taking a top spot in my Make Up Must Haves round up. I’m actually coming to the end of my third bottle of it and know I’ll be repurchasing. The Convertible Cheek Colours are another product I hold a soft spot for – super cute packaging, creamy and blendable formulas and a gorgeous selection of shades. Then there’s the lipglosses. If I’m having a gloss moment it’s more than likely I’ll be reaching for Stila. Fabulous brand, and bravo Beauty Outlet for stocking them at knock down prices!
Another pinch me moment came when I made my way to the back of the store and was greeted by floor to ceiling Real Techniques! Don’t get me wrong, I love my Bobbi Brown brushes and Beauty Blenders, but Real Techniques honestly do rival them in quality and I own a lot from their core collections. The Beauty Outlet stock everything from single brushes, the standard sets, beauty sponges and wait for it…the gorgeous bold metals collection. I must have spent half an hour just browsing this section because I have lusted after literally anything from the bold metals collection since it was launched and here it was, heavily discounted, right in front of me. It would have been rude not to right? It took me a painstakingly long time to choose which one I wanted, but I opted for the Arched Powder brush* which comes in the most stunning gold finish with the softest bristles I have ever felt. Here’s a shameful secret…I still haven’t even used it because I don’t want to spoil the prettiness!
Heading on over to the eye shadow section and having a good old rifle around, I came across a few palettes by The Balm. Well, you can imagine that I was like a kid in a sweet shop by this point. My first experience with The Balm was the Mary-Lou Manizer and I’ve slowly been building up a nice little portfolio of their products ever since. One thing that’s never quite made it into my make up bag has been one of their palettes though, and I have no idea why because I have swatched them, loved them and wished for them for a long time now. I managed to bag myself Nude’Tude*, which as the name suggests is made up of 12 warm and neutral ‘nude’ tones. The packaging is so sassy and fun – I’ll be doing a full review of this palette on here soon so I don’t want to reveal too much but let’s just say, this is fast becoming a staple in my day-to-day routine.
I could go on and on about all the gems I discovered in the Beauty Outlet – they had Fake Bake and St Tropez for all you fake tan lovers out there, The Sanctuary Skin Care starting from £1 (like seriously, you’re spoiling us now), Victoria’s Secret sprays, The Bomb Cosmetics…but I’m going to call it quits here and suggest you mosey on down for a look yourself. I’m already planning a trip back to get a good bulk of my Christmas shopping on a strict one for you, one for me basis of course. I would love to know where your favourite places are to grab a beauty bargain as I think I just might have caught the outlet bug!
